i will follow this video is simply U2 "performing" behind a background of the cover of boy. nothing fancy, especially where bono's dancing is concerned. this video does rate highly on the cheesiness factor, but only because it's your typical $500 video.
i will follow (live) this version is a lot better, and apparently only seen in america. it's U2 live, performing the song. the only thing that really dates the video is their hair. it's a great version of the song though, possibly even better than the studio version.
gloria i assume this video was shot the same time they shot the cover, since they're wearing the same clothes and it's the same setting. it's U2 performing on a boat or something in ireland. of course, they're lip synching, so it's not really performing.
a celebration this video doesn't see the light of day much, primarily since the average person doesn't know this song at all. you'd have to be a big fan to know of this song, since you can't find it on any album, not even a live one. it's shot in an irish jail, and is full of weird 80's special effects that add nothing to the video.
new year's day this video was shot in sweden in the middle of winter, and it shows. i don't know how the band didn't freeze their asses off. also, at the end of the video contains the ever popular U2 trivia question, where the four people on the horses are - surprise! - not U2!
two hearts beat as one another video not seen much, it's your typical 80's video. show the band perform a little, and fill the rest of the time up with shots of extras doing things having nothing to do with the song. i never have understood what a love song had to do with people breathing fire.
sunday bloody sunday this was taken from their performance at red rocks in denver, colorado. if you've seen under a blood red sky, you've seen this video. it's shown on music channels frequently (when they play music videos, that is) so you've probably seen it. there's nothing really special to it, just the band singing live.
pride (in the name of love) this version is shown more in europe than it is in america. shot in sepia tone, it shows band members walking to practice, i assume. they then precede to have sound check in an auditorium, and some little boys (where'd they come from? maybe this is in a school?) come and spy on them.
pride (in the name of love) this is basically cut right out from the unforgettable fire collection, where they show the band recording the album, and for this video, the song. it shows bono recording the vocals, and the band member playing their instruments. brian eno and daniel lanois even get a cameo here.
pride (in the name of love) i've never seen this version, and neither have you. it's never been released, at least that's what i've been told. apparently it shows them singing from tree branches? no wonder no one's seen it!
a sort of homecoming this is actually live, but it's not the same version as the one from wide awake in america. which isn't a big deal since that one is from a sound check. i actually think this one is slightly better, bono's vocals seem better here.
bad this video is taken from the same concerts that a sort of homecoming is. again, it's not the same as what you hear on wide awake in america.
the unforgettable fire this is another one of those videos you don't see much. i for one think it's an awesome video for an awesome song. shot in sweden in winter just like new year's day, this one doesn't show them freezing to death like the latter does.
with or without you this video gets a lot of airplay, since the song is so popular. the video contains what was then state-of-the-art special effects: bono's mouth was moving in sync with the music, but the rest of him was moving a lot slower. i suppose it was cool at the time, but when watching the video, it's not too big of a deal.
red hill mining town again, i've never seen this video and neither have you. it was filmed and withdrawn once the management realised - duh! - we can't promote a song bono can't sing live!
i still haven't found what i'm looking for U2 in vegas. what more could you need? bono and the boys walk the streets of vegas, singing along with gamblers and the people who work the slots. i wonder how many of these people had heard of U2 or this song before then.
where the streets have no name the boys decided to film their next video on top of a liquor store. they had originally planned to film it on top of the million dollar hotel, but the roof was too high, so they couldn't do it. not only do we get to see U2 perform the song (live!), but we get to watch a play-by-play action of the police trying to get them off of the roof, and people stopping on the road and climbing up apartment buildings to watch and listen to the free concert.
in god's country this is simply an outtake from U2 performing in tempe. you can see this same thing in the movie rattle and hum.
christmas (baby please come home) U2 covered the popular christmas tune for charity in 1987, and managed to also film a video for it in between concerts during their exhaustive joshua tree tour. nothing fancy, it was probably even filmed in one take.
desire this video shows U2 taking it to the streets, and not being afraid to show their rock side. it's still nothing fancy, they hadn't reached the excessive point of their career yet.
desire (hollywood remix) the remix is different, but the video is merely just an extended version of the original video.
angel of harlem this shows the band performing the song, as well as clips of them around the world at premieres for their movie rattle and hum. it's also filled with images of billie holliday, who the song is about.
when love comes to town their duet with b.b. king, he shows up for the filming of the video as well. it's nothing different from the section from the movie.
all i want is you this video was shot on the shores of rome. U2 are only in this video for a matter of seconds. for the rest of the video, it focuses on a group of people in a circus, including a midget who is in love with a trapeze artist. it appears she's in love with him as well, but is in an abusive relationship with someone else in the circus. finally, someone dies, but it's unclear as to who was the one who died. everyone has their own belief as to who died, but i believe they both died. it's a long story which i won't get into here.
night and day this video mainly shows bono sitting on staircase lip synching to the song. it was featured on the charity album red hot + blue.
the fly this was the first single and video off of achtung baby. it introduced U2's new look, particularly bono's.
mysterious ways filmed in morocco, it could be one of their most exotic videos. it's like bringing the inner album art to life in a video.
one this is the one with the band filmed in germany. it shows the band cross dressing, and many elements relating to the song. for example, bono's late father is shown on one side of a see-saw. this is seen occasionally on video television.
one this version is sans U2. it shows buffalos in slow motion to symbolize the aids crisis, and also shows the word "one" in many languages.
one this is perhaps the most seen version. it shows the band in a bar, with bono singing into a camera.
even better than the real thing this video shows the band singing the song inside a bar, perhaps, and shows solo shots of each band member playing their instrument and flipping over and over, like tommy lee's drum set did on tour with motley crue.
even better than the real thing this is simply a remix of the song and video.
who's gonna ride your wild horses this isn't a very interesting video. it can only be found on the numb video single, and simply shows clips of the band performing and bono dressed up as the fly, singing into the camera.
numb this is the hilarious video that every fan has seen. it shows edge deadpanning the lyrics into the camera, while various people distract, taunt, and torture him.
numb this is simply a remix of the song and video.
lemon this is inspired by old silent movies. it shows the band (including bono dressed as macphisto) performing and doing various things. beneath them the whole time is captioning describing what they're doing.
stay (faraway, so close!) this shows the band in berlin, as sort of angels, helping a young band singing the song sing it better.
hold me, thrill me, kiss me, kill me this shows the band as they've never been shown before: as cartoon figures. each member is shot as a cartoon, including bono as both the fly and macphisto. the book the screwtape letters makes an appearance in the video, finally showing many people the inspiration for macphisto.
discotheque the first video off of pop got the band off to a funky start. with colours abound, the band dress up as the village people and poke fun as 70's disco culture. the edge even has a mirrorball guitar that makes its first and only appearance here.
staring at the sun this is the version most people have seen. it simply shows the band performing in front of the camera.
staring at the sun this is known as the miami version. it shows bono dancing around outside what is possibly a hotel, swinging an umbrella. this version is rarely shown.
last night on earth this was shot in between gigs for popmart. the band drive around the city with a girl in tow who take them on a fantastic voyage.
please this video helps show what the song is about: northern ireland violence. it shows various people needing some kind of assistance.
if god will send his angels this video mainly shows a split screen, each focusing on a various band member sitting in a public bus.
the sweetest thing this video is mainly shot in the back of a car. ali makes her first and so far only appearance in a music video here. since the song was written as an apology to ali, he decided to bring it to life by filling it with all the things she likes as an apology, with my banners showing "i'm sorry" throughout the video.
beautiful day this video was shot in an airport. it shows the band in the lobby and terminals, and also outside on the runway performing.
stuck in a moment you can't get out of this version is rarely shown outside of europe. it shows bono getting thrown out of a car multiple times. many fans believe it's the better version.
stuck in a moment you can't get out of this is the american version. it takes place at a football (american) game, with all sorts of references to U2.
walk on this simply shows the band performing in front of a camera.
elevation this video brings the band inside the movie tomb raider.
